We bet that you've never straddled both hemispheres until you come to Gao, Mali

Trivia Question - where can you straddle two hemispheres?  Greenwich, England is probably the most well-known place, but the Prime Meridian, also known as 0 longitude, also runs directly through modern-day Gao, too.  Sweet!

No one from the Gao Bureau of Tourism has ever visited Greenwich to know what they offer, but in Gao you can visit the Prime Meridian marker and have your picture taken by it, while literally straddling both the eastern and western hemispheres.  Your friends can go to one side of the street and you can stand on the other hurling compliments, insults or whatever you fancy across two hemispheres...although don't be surprised if locals sitting nearby drinking tea wonder just what the heck you're doing.

Experience:  Visit the Prime Meridian Marker

Description:  Visit the Eastern and Western Hemispheres, stand in both hemispheres at once, go back and forth as many times as you want, take a picture, talk to a friend across hemispheres without the use of a telephone

Time Required: 15 minutes

Price:  Free, but watch out for traffic when you're taking photos and otherwise causing a scene

Schedule: Open 7 days per week
