Gounzour�y, south of Gao, is one of many villages located on islands in the Niger River.  Gounzour�y has a note of historical relevance - it is where Askia Mohamed was exiled by his son, Askia Bounkan Kiria.  Although nothing exists from the time of Askia Mohamed, a visit to this charming farming and fishing community will give a visitor a good view at life among the Songha� people.

Price:  No entry fees for site; Pirogue ride to island - negotiable - varies based on time of year / size of river
