Kata has served as the Chef du Bureau since late 2003.  He comes from a small village
, Baji-Haoussa, in Ansongo, but has lived in Gao for several years now.  He was formerly an English teacher, so he speaks fluent English as well as French, Songha, and Bambara.  His university studies were in English and American literature, including a thesis on the poetry of Walt Whitman.  He also has a strong knowledge of the amazing local history of Gao and Mali in general.

Office Volunteer - Mahamane "Anthony" Tour

Office Volunteer "Anthony" Tour

Anthony volunteers his services around the office.  He knows more about the history of Gao than almost anyone in town and is a wonderful resource for those that want to know more than the standard things found in guidebooks about Gao.  Want to know about the Songha Empire's fated "Cattle Charge"?  Anthony is the man that can fill in the details.

Office Volunteer - Mohamed Tour

Office Volunteer Mohamed Tour

Mohamed Tour also helps out around the office.  He is also an official tour guide and the president of the local guide association.  He can help visitors to arrange trips or can accompany them as a guide.  He also owns his own pirogue with motor and can take visitors on Dune Rose trips and to see the hippos of Tasharan.
